Chicken Momo’s

My youngest daughter loves Momo’s. She can eat them all. She will buy them every chance but she always says ‘mum they’re not as good as yours’. When we have them at home, she will eagerly help out, then take them out of the steamer, put one on the dish and pop one in her mouth! They are so more-ish!

I buy ready made wonton sheets, life is too short to fuss over rolling out sheets! Try this recipe, it’s one of our family favourites!

Ingredients:

Chicken mince 300g.
1 cup coriander leaves chopped.
1 cup spring onion greens chopped.
1 onion finely chopped.
2 tbsp garlic ginger paste.
1 tbsp chilli flakes.
2 tsp chilli powder.
1 tsp pepper.
2 tsp salt.
1 tbsp soy sauce.
Fresh chillies chopped (I used 4).
2 tbsp oil.
3 Kafir lime leaves very finely chopped.

Mix really well and leave for few hours or over night. I used ready-made dumpling/wonton sheets. Place spoonful in each sheet, dab water or flour paste around edges with brush or finger, bring sides up and squeeze. Place on greaseproof paper in steamer. Steam on covered for about 10 to 15 mins. Serve with chilli sauce or soy sauce. We prefer soy dipping sauce.

My Soy Dipping Sauce:

1 teaspoon sugar.
1 tablespoon hot water.
2 tablespoons soy sauce.
1 teaspoon rice vinegar.
1 teaspoon chilli oil.
1 teaspoon garlic (minced).
1 teaspoon toasted sesame seeds.
½ teaspoon sesame oil.

Dissolve 1 teaspoon sugar in 1 tablespoon hot water. Then add soy sauce, rice vinegar, chilli oil, minced garlic, sesame seeds, and sesame oil. Stir to combine.

Serve with freshly cooked Momo’s and enjoy!

Tip:

Don’t feel you have to use chicken mince. Change it up…mix your mince or dry prawns and pork, chicken and pork, turkey, veal whatever you fancy!

Adjust the ingredients once you have made it once. That way you will know you want more of or less!
