The Bengali classic salad

Go to any Bengali house and with the main meal will be served this salad. It’s generally a Bengali house special and because it tends to go well with pretty much everything the seasoning is kept very simple so it can accompany any type of curry without clashing in flavours.

The key thing is to just ensure that all the ingredients are cut thin and fine.

INGREDIENTS:

Thin and fine

1 cucumber
1/2 iceberg lettuce
2 tomatoes pulp removed
1 red onion thinly sliced
1 cup fresh coriander chopped

METHOD:

Thinly slice the iceberg lettuce
Julienne the cucumber by thinly slicing rounds then finely cutting again.
Slice tomatoes thin then half again.

Bruise the onions a little then mix all the ingredients together.

Serve with sprinkle of lemon juice, salt and pepper.

Serve with any curry, rice or chappatis
